The sound of Sakuma's system is a bit idiosyncratic but it is quite pleasant to the ear. I even enjoy the Fürtwängler Beethoven! Which speaker systems does he have?Chris...

This Christmas I wish for 100 hours in every day, so I finally have enough time to take the EAR phono preamplifiers, the second turntable, the tonearms, the capacitors, tubes and everything else and put it together. And maybe even fix up the secondar...

[quote user="Wojtek"]These are not speakers but ear scratchers ,they may however fit Samuel's expectations. Actually from description of required performance almost every Hi-End speaker should fit the bill so I don't understand where is the problem ?...

Andy 1) Actually the most interest was in the fact that I was not asking two questions but one question at the same time as I see both of the questions are inner-related. I was under presumption tha...

Thorsten Loesch who came up with the mods, details what caps and why on the first page of this thread. Lacking interest for multiple years of auditioning caps, I just built it that way (2012 or so) and have had no urge to change anything. Romy has pi...

I tried Amperex ECC83 "Bugle Boy". They sounded bad in the EAR RIAA. I like more modern Amperex ECC83, Holland made with orange-red prints....

Danley, however narrow his focus, is intelligently inventive. It is hard not to wonder what he would do if he had a refined ear to hand, so to speak....

Jorge, interesting findings. However, the tall arrays with small woofers is actually worth exploring further based on your findings. I am theorizing, but perhaps the "smearing" effect you were finding in comparison to the midbass horn was due to the h...

Hi Romy,Yes, your description is exactly what I'm experiencing, and would explain why I didn't hear it with my past EAR 834P's when I was using a Benz Ace as opposed to the my current Denon 301.Many thanks.Freddy...

[quote user="Paul S"] it would be great to lower the noise level of the vacuum, by any means available. Perhaps NG might have used quieter components and/or designed it differently. However, I see no practical way to remote the motor for the disc-sp...

Thanks for the heads up.The local "classical" station (out of Mexico) will re-broadcast 3 hours of this Strauss orgy from 9PM until 2010, tomorrow. If I'm home and semi-conscious I'll make a point of tapping in with my Kaito 1107 and cast iron e...

Well... musical fidelity, as opposed to audio fidelity, is in the ear of the beholder. Very hard to make scientific inquiries into something as subjective as a mental process. For Audio fidelity you need a different site where such concerns...

Hello Romy,At what load do you normally run the PP? What does the load meter show? I have found that the noise increases with load.Even with no load there is a slight sound, audible only if I put my ear very close to the unit....

Oleg has a lot of bad press in Germany for unkept promises and defaulting on delivery of product. Just keep an open mind next to the open ear. The best product only serves a purpose if it a) arrives and b) performs.I really like the things that he th...

Hi, [quote user="Chirag"]103 or 103R + mass loaded SME headshell + 3012 or a 3009 + Seiki 1500 + hagerman opamp phono stage (good only with select parts and battery power) or an EAR 834 (with some mods) and some old...

[quote user="guy sergeant"] It's polishing a turd though isn't it? I listened to the 834 quite a bit when it came out and thought it sounded poor, even for the price. imho, The circuit's just bad. If you do all that to it it isn't really an 834 anywa...

I think our brain is so complex , the ear and brain structure are very very complex in music processing.low THD , high Slew rate , ... non of them could make us happy , i know making an theory for understanding relation of musicality with mathematics...

Kodomo, what is your ear height when you are sitting in your listening chair? I guess it is less than 120cm. Perhaps when you finish setting up the horns and remove the wheels effectively lowering them you may be in the position of lowering the twee...

I.e. seek "louder" as if they wear permanent ear-plugs[quote user="guy sergeant"]The record companies demand that sound engineers make the recordings so that the band sounds as loud (noticeable) as possible when played on the radio. Music recorded in...

I don't think they are deaf, but honestly, you are the first who writes that this Cessaro Horn room was one of the best at show.I guess, you are the Deaf one, I know another one in Germany who writes very important messages =) and he is deaf in one e...

Rings=poorely damped, due to its crystaline structure. Take a granite tile with two fingers, put your ear close to it and knuckle. Observe the sound.Repeat with other stones to compare. For that reason it's neither used in nanolabs anymore (see e.g. ...

I've been pushing this intellectual excersise (masturbation?) of solving Romy's constraints on a powerfull bass SE amp. Thanks to Stephie Bee the humanity have now a decent model of GU81M, so before electro-cuttingonself, one can see if the electrocut...

Indeed; art that leaves something for your own imagination to fill in the gaps is always more fulfiling.Dunno if you've seen the resevoir dogs movie, I recall when it came out there was a huge fuss about the scene when the policeman gets his ear cuto...

Hi Roman, hi all... intriguing post and interesting questions, as I've been for about 20 years a triode and, before, a tube user and a glowing-in-the-dark maniac. My experience...I purchased - years ago - an Hiraga 20W which I used as a bass enclosure...

"There is a
difference between the player's ear and the listeners ear. Fiddlers
tend to be deaf to their own instrument, hearing fatigue on the side
where the instrument is held. A great instrument tone seems to more a mutual agreem...

The visual analogy is very appealing I must say. Looking at audio from the point of view of music, as you treat the subject, I could comment on the following:"It is not necessary or even desirable that a system reproduce all the information of the li...
